Madeline Welch

Madeline Welch learned how to make cornbead necklaces when she was 7 years old. As she got older her mother taught her how to sew, and when she began working the Oconaluftee Indian Village, Madeline began learning more extensive beadwork techniques from Kim Saunooke and Martha Sherrill.

Although she hasn’t taught anyone yet, Madeline would like to teach individuals in the future. She always says to take pride in your work. You put a part of yourself in each piece you make, so be proud of the parts you do put in there.
