Jamie Welch

Jamie Welch is an artist from the Big Cove community.  Jamie started making crafts at the age of five learning different mediums.  She learned basket making from her mother Carol Welch and both of her grandmothers Agnes Welch and Helen Smith, wood carving from her father Simpson Welch.

Jamie also learned pottery and beadwork from her grandmother Helen which is where Jamie found her niche in doing beadwork.  Jamie enjoys working with beads as well as the many varieties beads come in.  She hopes the beadwork craft doesn’t die out and other generations keep it up learning from other artists.  She has had her pieces place in the Cherokee Fall Festival.
