Gabriel Crowe

Gabriel Crowe is an impressive basket weaver from the Big Y community.  He started his journey in basketry at the Oconaluftee Indian Village in 2013, learning from two sisters Lucille and Ramona Lossiah, as well as Carol Welch.

Gabe was taught to work in river cane, white oak, maple and hickory.  Gabe says every piece he makes reflects a certain time in his life.  When he sees earlier pieces he’s made it reminds him how far he has come as a weaver.

Gabe gets a lot of his inspiration from past weavers Eva Wolfe, Edmund Youngbird, and Lottie Stamper.  Gabe has won several ribbons at the annual Cherokee Fall Festival as well as the Heard Museum in Phoenix Arizona.
